Department Overview:

Are you looking to be a part of a dynamic cross-functional dynamic team with opportunities to broaden your technical expertise across a variety of compression systems hardware? This is a Design Engineering position within Engineering Support to Operations Organization closely supporting the manufacturing of world class compression systems at Pratt & Whitney facilities located in Lansing and/or Holt, Michigan.

Pratt & Whitney Cold Section Engineering Support to Operations (CSE ESTO) is looking for a self- motivated and detail-focused design engineer to so serve a s focal point of contact for specific engine hardware on critical airplane engine programs. This engineer is expected to execute and oversee day to day activities for production support, proactive producibility improvement tasks, quality issues, supplier transitions, and Class 2 Engineering Changes. This engineer will be responsible for performing detail design and analyses for compression system hardware and will work collaboratively to arrive at solutions with integrated product teams. The candidates will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of commercial cold section rotating and static hardware.

Determination of initially assigned hardware and engine program will be based on candidates experience. Possible opportunities include design of commercial blades & airfoils, rotors, hubs, cases, vanes modules owned by P&W.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for production and engine deliveries as needed.
  • Execute design and analysis of Fan, Low-Pressure Compressor (LPC), and High-Pressure Compressor (HPC) components via hand calculations, 2D and 3D finite element modeling, using the latest P&W Engineering Standard Work, analytical tools, and engineering judgement.
  • Oversee outsource engineers on daily production support activity and proactive tasks to maintain outsource technical quality.
  • Support proactive redesigns improve the producibility of cold section hardware.
  • Challenge our processes to become more efficient and more effective.
  • Document analyses and present results and associated recommendation to integrated part teams, management, and customers.
  • Applies technical knowledge to provide solutions to challenging tasks containing limited variables
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET approved engineering program
  • 5 years structural design experience or 3+ years of experience
  • US Citizenship or US Person required due to contract requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engine cold section design experience, fan blade design preferred
  • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance in the future
  • Experience Aerospace/Mechanical engineering with focus on manufacturing.
  • Proficient with P&W proprietary tools and Engineering Standard Work
  • Ability to propose innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong focus on results with the ability to drive tasks to completion.
  • Clear and concise communicator with emphasis on tailoring to appropriate audience.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks across various hardware and engine programs at a time.
  • Capable of working as a team leader or as an individual contributor in a group
  • Ability to mentor less senior engineers.
  • Good communication skill, both written and verbal.
  • monstrated success working effectively and independently in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
