Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership for the district in supporting special education programming to ensure the growth and guidance of students with disabilities. The person in this position is responsible for supporting the district s and department s mission through supervision and coordination of instructional programs and related services, as well as compliance requirements related to the services to students with disabilities.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:
Master's degree from a recognized, accredited college or university.
Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate.
Valid Texas Standard Principal or Mid Management certification preferred.
Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Exemplifies instructional leadership, effective communication skills, personal integrity, and collaborative leadership style.
Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge of special education policy, law and procedures.

Experience:
Minimum three (3) years experience as a Special Education Coordinator.

Major Duties and
Responsibilities:

Program Management and Administration
Assist in supervision of Department operation.
Collaborate with central special education, campus and district staff on the appropriate allocation of resources.
Support Assessment staff in identifying best practices for identifying students with disabilities.
Assist in monitoring campus/district Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), Results Driven Accountability Reports (RDA), District Improvement Plan (DIP) and any TEA Corrective Action Plans in order to provide support, training, and program improvements to meet expectations.
Cooperatively plan with central office administration, principals, advisory teams and faculties in the selection of materials, development of methodology and implementation of innovative teaching techniques, strategies and staff development sessions.
Assist Director in oversight of State Performance Plan, School Health and Related Services (SHARS), and the ARD/IEP process to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements.
Assist Director in the creating and updating Operating Procedures and in providing effective written guidance to special education staff.
Assist Director in overseeing effective Records Management and accuracy of PEIMS data submission.
Oversee the IEP Management System, including accuracy of data and management of access/rights in the system.
Train and support staff with compliance-related activities including ARD documentation, progress reporting, documentation of FAPE, corrective action plans, RF Tracker requirements, SHARS, IEP management system, State Performance Plan indicators, etc.
Oversee and manage the accuracy of data submitted through PEIMS
Attend staffings/ARDs when appropriate to assist with the development and/or evaluation of individual educational plans.

Personnel Management
Assist the Director in the direct supervision and evaluation of administrative, professional, and paraprofessional staff.
Assist in the planning for efficient use and evaluation of department clerical staff.
Assist in developing an effective professional development system to ensure staff are effectively trained in instruction and compliance.
Collaborate with central special education, campus and district staff on the appropriate allocation of resources.
Support Assessment staff in identifying best practices for identifying students with disabilities.
Cooperatively plan with central office administration, principals, advisory teams and faculties in the selection of materials

Professional Growth and Development:
Engage in professional growth opportunities to gain an awareness of current "best practices".
Maintain an awareness of current special education policy and procedures.

Other:
Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory
